"What's there to know?" someone muttered. Someone else giggled.

"When will it end?" Piper asks as one of the cameras focuses on us.
"It didn't start yet." I whisper as she holds onto my hand from under the rope.
"When is it going to start?"
"Now, I think."
Our mayor stands up, and walks toward the microphone.

[Ok, I have finally fixed the security on my laptop. It's a day late because of stupid wind, though. DO YOU HEAR THAT WIND!? I AM GOING TO FIND YOU AND- OH MY GOSH I JUST FELL OFF MY BED... I'M BLAMING THE WIND!]

Jamie stands as close to the sectioned off portions as is allowed. I listen to the bladder half-heartly, "own fault... blah blah blah, teach a lesson... blah blah blah, kind capitol... blah blah blah, this years tributes..."I was about to tune out again, when I decided maybe I should pay attention. "Charlotte Lyell." A man standing near Jamie begins to half-scream, half-cry, half-faint -don't ask me how, because I'm not exactly sure-. The girl walks up to the platform, crying but trying to hide it.
Then it's time for the boys. "Ashlon Groff"

I check my watch for like the trillionth time.
"C'mon Watt! We're late!" I'm sprinting down the street towards the District square, and and co. trying to keep up.
We get there just as the Mayor's speech ends. I pretty much shove Watt into the twelve-tear-old section, and I dive into the roped off section labeled "16".
The Capitol official pulls the girls name out of the Reaping ball- pauses for a moment of suspense then calls, "Electric Watt!"

"Oops." the teacher says, glancing at his watch. "It's time for the Reaping."

Automatically, there are shouts of "Yes!" and "Noooooo..." I stay quiet and get up. The class spills out the door and runs to the square. We get in our assigned places and wait expectantly, excited.

(Alex, can we say, just for the story, that the boy was chosen first? Because Jason wouldn't have volunteered if he knew Ele was chosen... )

The mayor stands proudly on the stage. Nemo stared at it in disgust. District One was supposed to be amazing, so why did they use the same stage every year? Bothering to clean it would be a big improvement anyways.

"Alright, everyone...." the mayor paused. Everyone stopped talking. "Gentlemen first..." He put his hand in the big ball of names, and brought out a slip. "The lucky boy is...Nemo Hennesen!"

There was a collective gasp from Nemo's class. He hung his head in shame. Some people considering getting into the Hunger Games an honor, but Nemo considered it a death penalty. He glanced at Elena hopefully. She was staring at her shoes.

Nemo clenched his fists- now or never. He ran up to Elena and kissed her. She stared at him with wide eyes, surprised and (hopefully) impressed. Nemo turned around and walked to the stage and sat on a seat.

He sat there, trying to find his family. There was Amani and Xander, his step-siblings. They were too young for the reaping. They were being cradled in a woman's arms- Nemo's mother. They stared at each other, knowing Nemo's likely unfortunate fate.

"Mother..." Nemo whispered, but Henrietta Hennesen could not hear. Amani began to wail, screaming.

"Nemooooooo!!!" she shouted. Xander joined her. "NEMOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

"Quiet those children, please." the mayor said calmly. Henrietta took Xander and Amani away, probably on their way home. Nemo searched the crowd. There was Lily, and her husband and daughter.

Nemo, she mouthed. Nemo smiled weakly. Jack stood, quietly. Lucas was nowhere to be seen, as usual. Alexander was holding Jack's hand, smiling faintly.

Nemo looked around, trying to spot-ah! There, there was Agatha, Nemo's all-time favorite sister. After the reaping, he decided to go home with Agatha ask her to make him some-oh. Wait. There was no going home. Not now. Not ever again. Nemo looked at the sky hopefully, as if his answer was in the skies. If it was supposed to be, it wasn't.

The silence was eerie. Nemo glanced at the mayor, wanting to hear the female tribute's name. The mayor of District One coughed. It was time for the other tribute's name. Nemo bit his nails, desperately hoping it wasn't Elena.

(Actually, don't. It's being alll screwy and not the right size so I had to delete it. )

I stand there, staring down at my feet.
I feel like I'm about to throw up.
How could this be happening?
Piper tightened her grip on my hand when the escort reaches for the boys ball.
"Timmy Propps!" She calls.
Piper's grip tightens even more.

He makes his way to the stage from the 12-year-olds.
He's Piper's best friend, probably first crush.
I don't see why she has to lose hers, too.
"Any volunteers?" The escort asks grinning, reaveling blinding white teeth.
I look at Piper, who looks down, and pull my hand out of her hold.
"I volunteer!"

(The main reason I want the boys to be picked first, because then even I won't understand why he volunteered... )

It's not like each Reaping the girls are chosen first. That is just Effie and her high standards in manners.
